Les Deux Amis, Flute and Guitar Duo Emerging young artists and currently graduate students at The Hartt School, Garcia and Hershey will present a delightful evening of chamber music. Each year WMSE loves to add something fun for patrons to take part in. This year Music Go Round Greenfield provided instruments to create a rock band set-up, and guests were encouraged to take a “Fantasy Rock Band” photos with their friends.

The contrasting and complementary tonal sounds of orchestral music are built into the music by the composer using different instruments to express a range of moods. The popularity of music as a recreational and active form of art participation for the masses is evident through the millions of music groups in the world. Many people even hear music in their dreams, and some see colours when they hear music; a form of synaesthesia.

With a retro-futuristic, sci-fi vibe that takes visual inspiration from German films of the 1920s, Scrap Arts Music’s Children of Metropolis is a fast-paced, all-acoustic percussive bonanza with five musicians bringing their original score to heart-pounding life. It features over 145 self-made sculptural instruments, sixteen all-original music compositions, Scrap Arts Music’s signature action-choreography, and a whimsical full-length movie of our own making that shows while the musicians perform live. Five athletic musicians perform with 145 mobile invented instruments — all hand-made by group leader and composer, Gregory Kozak.

Whereas Western music is arranged around specific major or minor keys that use specific notes contained in that scale, Hindustani music is arranged around the Indian equivalent of a Western major or minor key, with some differences. Hindustani music does not begin on a fixed pitch as in Western styles of art music, but rather can begin on any key. Indian classical music does not organize around harmony, but melody and the relative relationship of each note to the others.

Immersive, experience-led learning is at the heart of all of our programs in Art & Music Histories. On campus, faculty and students collaborate with the Syracuse University Art Museum and the Special Collections Research Center at Syracuse University Libraries. Within the local community, our partners include the Everson Museum of Art, Light Work, and the Society for New Music, to name just a few. Faculty regularly organize field trips to New York City to network with curators and other cultural heritage professionals, many of whom are alumni of the Art & Music Histories program.

Steve is also the curator of The Studio’s vintage keyboard collection, which includes two Hammond organs w/Leslies, Fender Rhodes, a Wurlitzer electric piano, a Hohner Clavinet, and much more. The Milwaukee arts community came together once again on Friday, July 15th and a great time was had by all. The Historic Pritzlaff Building transformed into a studio fit for artists, musicians, and party-goers of all kinds.
